Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM)

UMAM is a research-based Islamic university located in Perlis, Malaysia. It focuses on Ph.D. programs by research, with a commitment to Devotion to Universal Humanity and Excellence.

UMAM offers five Ph.D. by Research programs:

1. Business and Management

2. Education

3. Information Technology

4. Social Science

5. Islamic Studies

The standard duration is 3 years (6 semesters):

1. Year 1 → compulsory courses & thesis proposal.

2. Year 2–3 → research, Scopus-indexed publications, dissertation writing.

3. Final stage → dissertation defense (Viva Voce).

1. Academic: A Master’s degree (MQF Level 7) or equivalent from an accredited university (MQA/BAN-PT/LAM-PT).

2. English: MUET Band 3 or CEFR Level B2 (equivalent to IELTS/TOEFL).

1. Malaysian Students: MYR 3,625 per semester (~ MYR 21,750 for 3 years).

2. International Students: MYR 5,125 per semester (~ MYR 30,750 for 3 years).

3. Additional costs: visa, insurance, medical check-up, graduation fee.

Yes, several scholarships are available:

1. Muhammadiyah Lecturers & Cadres → full tuition coverage (6 semesters).

2. Palestine Scholarship → for Palestinian citizens.

3. International Scholarship → open to all countries except Malaysia & Indonesia.

1. Research Workstations: 24-hour access, high-speed internet, facilities for students with disabilities.

2. Student Dormitory: starting from MYR 250/month (shared room) or MYR 500/month (single room).

3. E-Learning & E-Log Book: online monitoring of research progress.

4. Student Activities: associations, volunteering, ambassador program, sports, cultural events.

1. Submit online application via UMAM portal.

2. Reviewed by academic & faculty committees.

3. If accepted → receive Letter of Acceptance (LoA).

4. Apply for student visa (for international students).

5. Re-register at UMAM according to schedule.
